Le classement final des favoris du Giro : Carapaz triomphe, Roglic remonte sur le podium

S’il a confirmé le sacre de Richard Carapaz (Movistar) devant Vincenzo Nibali (Bahrain-Merida), le chrono final de Vérone a tout de même permis plusieurs changements au sein du top10. Les 17 kilomètres du parcours ont ainsi vu Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) reprendre la troisième place qu’il avait perdue la veille. Mikel Landa (Movistar) conclut alors quatrième, pour huit petites secondes. Bauke Mollema (Trek-Segafredo) s’est lui contenté d’assurer sa cinquième place finale.

Derrière, trois coureurs étaient à la lutte pour la 6e place. Septième au départ, c’est Rafal Majka (Bora-hansgrohe) qui s’en est emparée, aux dépens de Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana) et Simon Yates (Mitchelton-Scott). Les autres positions n’ont pas évolué jusqu’à la 20e de Fausto Masnada (Androni-Sidermec). Pavel Sivakov (Ineos) conclut alors son premier Giro à la neuvième place. Ilnur Zakarin (Katusha-Alpecin) ferme le top10. Pour sa première participation à un Grand Tour, Valentin Madouas (Groupama-FDJ) confirme sa belle 13e place. Il termine intercalé entre Joe Dombrowski (EF Education First) et Davide Formolo (Bora-hansgrohe).
