BMC Racing, Porte and Van Garderen lead the team at Volta ao Algarve
BMC Racing is racing Volta ao Algarve with more shots in its locker. In fatcs, Riche Porte and Tejay Van Garderen are both taking part to the portuguese calendar’s header race. The BMC leaders come from different backgrounds in this first part of season and will set different goals in the next races. Whereas the Tasmanian has ridden the 2018 Tour Down Under ending the race in second place, the American has still to debut and has to find good feelings and to test his condition. The first is targeting the Tirreno-Adriatico although the latter is going to race the Paris-Nice.
The 2018 Volta ao Algarve course is a demanding race, in which two summit finishes and a rolling time trial are likely to decree the winner. In this circumstance Van Garderen will be trying to be Richie Porte’s lieutenant in Grand Tours, his new role inside BMC squad. Given the new balances, Van Garderen changed his targets. The former HTC rider is going to face one-week stage races in springtime with a view to win one of those and sports director Fabio Baldato is confident for new Van Garderen’s goals.
Simon Gerrand, Stefan Kung, Jurgen Roelandts, Dylan Teuns and Loic Vliegen are bringing together with Van garderen nad Porte the portoguese challenge.
