Ronde van Drenthe 2018, Sisr gets the victory!
The 56th edition of the Ronde van Drenthe is won by Frantisek Sisr (CCC-Sprandi), who achieved the success being part of the breakaway. In the same way to the ladies’ race, won by Dutch Amy Pieters (Boels-Dolman), the men’s one has been marked by a devilish weather. When the first paved sectors were hit, several riders tried to break out, each time reeled in by a vigilant squad. At the time of the quadruple ascent of the Vamberg, a duo composed of Wesley Kreder (Wanty-Groupe Gobert) and Jasper Bovenhuis (Vlasman) finally standed out seriously. Later the group grew to twelve men: in particular Dries De Bondt (Verandas Willems – Crelan), Zakkari Dempster (Israel Cycling Academy), Pascal Eenkhoorn (Netherlands team), Floris Gerts (Roompot), René Hooghiemster (Alecto Cycling), Johann Le Bon (Vital Concept), Frantisek Sisr (CCC) and Joey Van Rhee (Monkey Town) were part of the attempt.
The gap grew and held on at 50 seconds of advantage over the bunch, whose tempo was set by Cofidis and WB Aqua Protect Veranclassic. With fifteen kilometers to go, the group was only about twenty seconds ahead the chasers but the deal between the leads was good, which makes it difficult for the peloton to close the gap. At the edge of the last 7.5-kilometer through the streets of Hoogeveen, the gap remained constant and the breakaways began to disorganize. Despite the various attacks, the group recomposed itself in the final and at the end of the sprint it is Frantisek Sisr, the Czech yougster who lines up for CCC squad, who wins. Sisr took the sprint over Dries De Bondt and Preben Van Hecke.
