Paris – Roubaix 2018, Sagan makes it!

Peter Sagan (Bora – hansgrohe) takes the win at the 2018 Paris – Roubaix. The three times World champion gets his first success in the Hell of the North taking the sprint of two ahead of Silvan Dillier (Ag2r La Mondiale). Sagan attacked with over 54 kilometers remaining as soon as the Auchy a Bersée cobblestone section came to an end. In a matter of an handful of kilometers Bora – hansgrohe leader joined Dillier, Jelle Wallays (Lotto – Soudal) and Sven Erik Bystrom (UAE Team Emirates), who were part of the breakaway that went clear in the first stages of racing. With 25 kilometers to go Sagan sitted together with Dillier in the lead and widened their advantage over the chase to 1’30”.

A pack of seven was chasing the leading group but at the end only Niki Terpstra (Quick Step Floors), Greg van Avermaet (BMC Racing), Sep Vanmarcke (EF – Drapac) and Jasper Stuyven (Trek – Segafredo) had been strong and lucky enough to fight for the lowest step on the podium. Silvain Dillier approached the velodrome in first and Sagan waited until the last 200 meters of racing before moving the decisive sprint, to which the Swiss couldn’t do nothing. Niki Terpstra moved an attack just before heading to the veldrome and crossed the finish line solo in third. Peter Sagan finally wins the Paris – Roubaix on the seventh attempt.
