Alejandro Valverde takes both the stage victory and the overall lead at the end of Volta a Catalunya 2018 second day of racing. Movistar‘s leader told us how he managed to win the race: “It has been a very fast way to the sprint. José Joaquim Rojas’s lead out was perfect and in the end everything went down right”. The Murcia native has already won six times throughout the last one and half month and the results he has achieved amazed the thirty-seven years old: “This firt stages of 2018 season have been terrific, especially considering how the last season went to an end. I’ve already achieved six victories this year and I must admit I am surprised because I didn’t know if I was able to recover completely”:
At the end, Valverde analyzed what can happen by the route of tomorrow stage (before the course change affected the stage 3 route): “Tomorrow stage will be a tough one. We are three leaders here in Catalonia but we will see tomorrow. What it is important is that we took the victory and the overall jersey is on the shoulders of a Movistar rider”, so concluding his speech.
