Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana 2018, BMC conquers the team time trial

BMC Racing wins the team time trial at Volta a Comunitat Valenciana 2018. The success of the men directed by Jim Ochowitz has although a bittersweet taste because of the neutralization of the gaps pointed out on the finish line. In facts, due to the hostile weather conditions, the organizers decided that today’s stage would not count towards the general classification. This decision is the result of a compromise reached by the organization and the teams, despite some of the latters have shown their dissent.

The stage takes place over 23,5 kms instead of the 30 kms between Poble Nou de Benitatxell and Calpe originally planned. BMC stops the clock after 27’25” of race, with an average speed which goes beyond 50 kms per hour. In the back of the American team Astana with 1’08” of delay, Ag2r La Mondiale with 1’12”, Gazprom – Rusvelo and CCC – Sprandi both finished after 1’36” complete the top-5 of the day. Any change affects the general classification, where Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) foreruns Luis Leon Sanchez and Jakob Fuglsang of Astana respectively by 4 and 6 seconds.
