Giro d’Italia 2018, Dumoulin: “I am back to the Giro because it’s a really nice course to me”

Tom Dumoulin is looking forward to the victory of the Giro d’Italia. The defending champion of the Italian Grand Tour is just itching to get rolling Friday on stage 1 time trial. Against the clock racing is a specialty in which the Dutchman stands out and the first Maglia Rosa isn’t way out of his league. According to Dumoulin himself, the reason why he is back to the Giro is mostly because this course suits perfectly Sunweb leader’s characteristics. Twelve months have passed since the success achieved in Milan’s Piazza Duomo but Dumoulin’s motivations look stronger.

Dumoulin: “I am back to the Giro because it’s a really nice course to me”

“I guess it’ll be very cool to put the number one on my back – debuts Dumoulin – I think it is the first time I start with number one in a race. On the spring I was too focused on the results. I wanted to show myself and everyone that I could do it again and that I was a good rider. Now I am more relaxed and I will see how it goes the next three weeks”.

The defending champion of the Corsa Rosa revealed the reason why he is taking part to this competition. “I am back to the Giro d’Italia because it’s a really nice course to me. Furthermore I like the challenge of winning again the Giro. I really like this race, why wouldn’t I?”.

And last but not least, Dumoulin tells his side of things regarding Froome’s participation to the Giro. “Chris Froome has every right to be here racing“, said the Dutchman.
