Tour de Romandie 2018, De Gendt wins solo

Thomas De Gendt (Lotto – Soudal) wins solo on Tour de Romandie 2018 stage 2. The Belgian took the success on today’s race just the way he has won several times in his career. De Gendt went clear together with Matteo Fabbro (Katusha – Alpecin), Victor Campenaerts (Lotto – Soudal), Andriy Grivko (Astana) and Nathan Brown (EF – Drapac) in the very first stages of racing. Vuelta a Catalunya stage 3 winner resisted in the lead solo since his teammate Campenaerts, the last who kept the tirty-one years old company, dropped the lead with 34 kilometers to go. De Gendt crossed the finish line solo with a safe gap of more than two minutes over the group behind him. Sonny Colbrelli (Bahrain – Merida) finished in second by winning the bunch sprint over Samuel Dumoulin (Ag2r La Mondiale) and Michael Matthews (Sunweb). Primoz Roglic (Lotto Nl – Jumbo) holds the overall jersey on the eve of the Tour de Romandie 2018 time trial.
