Giro d’Italia 2018, Pozzovivo: “The podium is a feasible goal”
Domenico Pozzovivo is seeking top-tier results at the Giro d’Italia. The Italian moved from Ag2r La Mondiale to Bahrain-Merida last winter and he has heredited the Arabian team’s lead at the Corsa Rosa from Vincenzo Nibali. Pozzovivo achieved the best placing in Grand Tours racing on 2014 Giro d’Italia. Last year, by the way, he proved to be capable of having a say on the final win or at least on a podium positioning. Pozzovivo performed very well on Tour of the Alps and is looking forward to make a dent.
Pozzovivo: “The podium is a feasible goal”
“I had good time on the Tour of the Alps but on the other hand I wanted to win a stage. By the way I showed I’m in good shape and I can compete against the GC contenders. Furthermore my racing at Liege-Bastogne-Liege has been an injection in confidence“.
“The course is very balanced. There are almost 40 kilometers against the clock but also a lot of climbs where the pure climbers have the chance to jump across the gaps. The podium could be a feasible goal but it won’t be easy. I’ll be pleased to fight for a podium position until the end”.
“It is very important to be Bahrain-Merida’s leader at the Giro d’Italia. It will be very difficult to replace Vincenzo Nibali who covered this role twelve months ago but I’ll do my best”.
“With regards to Chris Froome’s case I must admit that it’s not within my remit. The rules had been agreed and I cannot change myself what has already been settled. I really hope that the final results of the Giro won’t be rewritten”.
