Cr\u00e9\u00e9e en 2007, l’\u00e9preuve des Strade Bianche est encore toute jeune mais elle se fait petit \u00e0 petit sa place dans le calendrier du cyclisme mondial. Cette ann\u00e9e, elle a d’ailleurs franchi un cap en obtenant sa place dans le calendrier WorldTour. Course appr\u00e9ci\u00e9e de beaucoup de coureurs, elle poss\u00e8de plusieurs atouts qui font son charme. Tout d’abord le paysage de Toscane qui ne rend pas indiff\u00e9rent les coureurs et les spectateurs. Mais c’est son parcours atypique qui en fait une course \u00e0 part. Dot\u00e9e de chemin de terre, ou de graviers, la difficult\u00e9 de l’\u00e9preuve des Strade Bianche \u2013 traduit de l’italien par ‘route blanche’, nom provenant de la couleur de ces chemins \u2013 est pour certains coureurs plus ou moins comparables \u00e0 celle des pav\u00e9s des classiques du nord. Car si ces chemins durcissent la course, c’est aussi parce que certains d’entre eux sont en c\u00f4te.<\/p>\n

D’ailleurs, le parcours trac\u00e9 autour de la ville de Sienne n’est jamais vraiment plat. Il est vallonn\u00e9 de bout en bout, et notamment dans son final. L’arriv\u00e9e se fait en effet dans les petites rues de Sienne sur une c\u00f4te de 900 m\u00e8tres avec des passages \u00e0 pr\u00e8s de 16%. Avant cela, il faudra avaler les 11 secteurs de graviers repr\u00e9sentant pr\u00e8s de 62 des 175 kilom\u00e8tres du parcours. Les deux plus longs mesurent plus de 11 kilom\u00e8tres et celui du Monte Santa Maria portera d’ailleurs le nom de Fabian Cancellara, en hommage au Suisse, vainqueur sortant de l’\u00e9preuve et recordman de victoires (3 succ\u00e8s), qui a pris sa retraite en ao\u00fbt dernier. L’\u00e9preuve italienne est tr\u00e8s attendue tout comme le nom du successeur de Spartacus.<\/p>\n
