Disput\u00e9e dans l\u2019Etat de Victoria, cette course avait traditionnellement lieu au mois d\u2019octobre avant d\u2019\u00eatre d\u00e9plac\u00e9e, en 2012, au mois de f\u00e9vrier. Il s&rsquo;agit donc d&rsquo;une course de cinq jours qui offre aussi l\u2019opportunit\u00e9 \u00e0 certains de reprendre la saison au soleil, \u00e0 d&rsquo;autres de poursuivre leur reprise dans la chaleur de l&rsquo;\u00e9t\u00e9 australien.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cette ann\u00e9e encore, les organisateurs ont concoct\u00e9 un parcours \u00e9quilibr\u00e9, dans la lign\u00e9e des \u00e9ditions 2016 et 2017. Comme c&rsquo;est devenu de coutume sur l&rsquo;\u00e9preuve, tout d\u00e9butera par un tr\u00e8s court prologue, \u00e0 nouveau dans les rues de Melbourne, sur \u00e0 peine 1600 m\u00e8tres. Les sprinteurs devraient ensuite pouvoir s&rsquo;exprimer \u00e0 Warrnambool, dans une \u00e9tape o\u00f9 seul le vent pourrait mettre en danger certains coureurs. \u00c0 Ballarat, apr\u00e8s quasiment 200 kilom\u00e8tres lors du troisi\u00e8me jour de course, seuls les sprinteurs les plus costauds pourront disputer la victoire apr\u00e8s l&rsquo;ascension du Mont Buninyong, et les puncheurs ne manqueront pas de leur rendre la t\u00e2che dure.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ce n&rsquo;est finalement que la veille de l&rsquo;arriv\u00e9e que le g\u00e9n\u00e9ral devrait s&rsquo;\u00e9claircir, dans l&rsquo;\u00e9tape reine de 218 kilom\u00e8tres menant au sommet de Lake Mountain. L&rsquo;organisateur pr\u00e9vient qu&rsquo;il s&rsquo;agit de l&rsquo;\u00e9tape <em>\u00ab\u00a0la plus dure et la plus longue jamais organis\u00e9e\u00a0\u00bb<\/em> sur le Herald Sun Tour. Les vingt kilom\u00e8tres d&rsquo;ascension finale donneront sans aucun doute lieu \u00e0 une belle bataille et un livreront un aper\u00e7u de ce \u00e0 quoi pourrait ressembler le classement final. Malgr\u00e9 tout, la derni\u00e8re \u00e9tape autour de Kinglake, avec cinq tours d&rsquo;un circuit comprenant une bosse de 9 bornes, pourrait faire des d\u00e9g\u00e2ts et renverser quelques positions dans les derni\u00e8res minutes de l&rsquo;\u00e9preuve.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Au d\u00e9part de ce Herald Sun Tour 2018, une \u00e9quipe part tr\u00e8s largement favorite. Celle du vainqueur sortant Damien Howson, la Mitchelton-Scott. L&rsquo;\u00e9curie australienne est non seulement l&rsquo;une des deux seules formations du WorldTour pr\u00e9sentes, avec Trek-Segafredo, mais elle contient aussi de nombreux \u00e9l\u00e9ments capables de briller sur les reliefs accident\u00e9s. Esteban Chaves fait \u00e9videmment partie de ceux-l\u00e0, tout comme son comp\u00e8re Damien Howson, mais aussi des jeunes Robert Power et Lucas Hamilton. C&rsquo;est donc une v\u00e9ritable armada que devront affronter les autres \u00e9quipes, et coureurs, du plateau. Parmi les outsiders, on peut ainsi nommer Ruben Guerreiro et Niklas Eg (Trek-Segafredo), Nathan Earle (Israel Cycling Academy) ou bien Larry Warbasse (Aqua Blue Sport).<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Cartes et
