Trofeo Laigueglia 2018, Moser: “I did not expect to go so fast and to be able to overcome everyone”

Moreno Moser now perceives himself in a whole different light. Astana rider, today in the ranks of the Italian National team, won the Trofeo Laigueglia 2018 after two and half years without winning. At the end of the race the Italian rider shows his satisfaction. “Today I was in a great shape – debuts Moser – Last week at the Vuelta Valenciana the level was very high and the rhythms were crazy, so thanks to it I am in an exceptional condition. I have rested during the week and even though I knew I was feeling good, I did not expect to go so fast and to be able to overcome everyone”, so admitting to be amazed of his victory.

The last two years have been difficult for Moser, who striked the first couple of years of his career with an amount of interesting results without being able to win again. “There is a big difference between feeling good and winning – continues Moser – It has been a while since I had the sensation of being the strongest, but even during the final ascent I felt I had more energy than the others. I gained a lot of weight in the past years and I have finally won after two and half years without celebrating. My teammates ran very well, as real professionals. They amazed me, they are young but very strong”, celebrating the efforts of his team.

Moser took his career’s first victory in Laigueglia and six years later he restarts a new chapter of his career by winning here again. “The first success here gave me the awareness of being able make a living as a rider, but this success, six years later my first one in Laigueglia, comes in a moment of my life in which I have many doubts”, admits the former Cannondale rider. “Now the morale is very high – goes on – and I’ll approach with motivation the Strade Bianche, a race that I have already won and that I really like. Now I have a great morale”.

The Astana rider also defines the race plan for the rest of the season: “Thursday I will race the Ruta del Sol and then I will have a big block of work for the Siena race. I do not have a lot of races scheduled by now, but since I will do the Ardennes I will definitely skip the Giro d’Italia and then I will plan the second part of the season later on”, concludes his speech.
