The peloton decided to give a chance to the breakaway this Friday, on the fifth stage of the Volta a Catalunya, and Jarlinson Pantano (Trek-Segafredo) took full advantage of this! The Colombian rider of the Trek-Segafredo dominated the breakaway to take the stage honours from Vegard Stake Laengen (UAE Team Emirates) after 216 kilometers of racing. Laengen was followed closely by Matej Mohoric (Bahrain-Merida) who took the third place. It was clear he was after a win today, having put some strong performances in throughout the weak but he just couldn’t match Pantano’s power. Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) quietly crossed the line to consolidate his position as leader in the general classification.
