Colombia Oro y Paz 2018, Gaviria makes it a hattrick

Fernando Gaviria wins again at Colombia Oro y Paz 2018. The Colombian strips down his rivals and takes over for the third time in a row in his motherland. The Quick Step Floors’ leader wins the sprint over Matteo Malucelli (Androni-Sidermec-Bottecchia) and Sebastian Molano (Manzana-Postobon), who confirm to be Gaviria’s closest competitors. Nothing changes in the GC, with Gaviria extending his lead over Molano and Malucelli.

Even today the breakaway’s fate was sealed since the start. Nevertheless, Rafael Montiel (Orgullo Paisa), Brayan Steven Ramírez (Colombia), Dalivier Ospina (Coldeportes-Claro), Mauro Richeze (Agrupacion Virgen De Fatima) and Felix Alejandro Barón (Team Illuminate) eke out an advantage, called off by the chasers with 20 kilometres to the end. Aitor González (Euskadi-Murias) attempts a counter-attack but the peloton soon reels in and with just over 15 kilometres remaining the peloton is on its way to the sprint, in which Gaviria gets the upper hand.
